Reebok: The icon of the 80s The name Reebok comes from the South African Afrikaans language and means “roebuck”. The characteristics of the namesake are also the program of the well-known sports and leisure shoe manufacturer: since 1895, people have been running, running or jumping through sport and leisure in the best possible soles with Reebok. Back then, the family business was founded in Great Britain. In 1924, Reebok equipped the Olympic athletes at the Olympic Games in Paris. In 1958, the founder's two grandsons took over the helm of the company and shortly afterwards, Reebok also conquered the American market. In 1982, Reebok achieved a special coup with the Freestyle running shoe: because it was so comfortable and specially designed, it not only established itself as a sports shoe, but also as a popular leisure shoe. During the aerobic fitness wave of the 80s, the sporty, simple shoe was particularly popular with women. The Freestyle thus became an icon of the time. The Freestyle was not the only famous shoe from Reebok. With its pump technology, Reebok finally showed in 1989 that the label was one of the big players in the sports and street style market: thanks to the air chambers contained in the Reebok pump shoe, its wearers could adapt perfectly to their feet through pumping movements. Reebok Retrorunner and sneakers Today, Reebok produces sports shoes, leisure shoes, sportswear and accessories. The brand remains true to its innovative design and sporty focus even after the takeover by adidas AG in 2006. In addition to sportswear and sports shoes for running, basketball, field hockey and tennis, Reebok continues to specialize in women's fitness.
